The team at Giffords PAC reported that last month, the NRA was rocked by a scandal when its CEO, Wayne LaPierre, was caught spending over $500,000 on personal expenses.
Now, we’ve learned that in recent years, the NRA also funneled money to its board members – the very people tasked with overseeing the group’s finances.
Not only is the NRA’s CEO spending six figures on personal expenses, but the NRA’s own board members are profiting off of the group.
So here’s the bottom line: the NRA has deep pockets and will stop at nothing to bury the truth and put their own profits over our safety. So any support you can give will help us pass safer gun laws and hold them accountable.
Even though they do seem to spend that money on themselves, but anyway....Next is the Everytown for Gun Safety efforts.
It's been 5 months since a Gun Sense Majority was sworn into the House of Representatives, and we've already made strides towards a future free from gun violence. We passed updated background checks through the House, saw Gun Sense Champion Lucy McBath introduce the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, and now, we have the chance to work towards passing a slate of Smarter Gun Laws that will make America a safer place.
Passing Smarter Gun Laws is about pushing through key priorities that will help build the framework for a future free from gun violence, including:
Passing updated background checks through the Senate: The House already passed bipartisan legislation to require background checks on all gun sales and now it's time for the Senate to also act to update background checks.
Closing the Boyfriend Loophole in the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act to keep guns out of the hands of all abusive domestic partners.
Funding GVP research on the federal level.
Repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) in order to end the special legal protection for the gun industry, hold negligent gun dealers and manufacturers accountable for their actions, and protect our families.
Passing a Red Flag law to give law enforcement the tools to intervene when someone poses a risk to themselves or others nationwide.
It's clear that we're fighting on the right side of history — but over the coming weeks and months we'll need your help to make sure both chambers of Congress pass Smarter Gun Laws.
Congresswoman Lucy McBath (D-GA) recently introduced a strong lifesaving Red Flag bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. Your Representative can act now to advance this lifesaving bill that would help reduce gun violence in America. Send your Representative an email now and ask them to cosponsor this bill.
New Jersey is already a leader in Gun Violence Prevention (“GVP”) but we need to make sure our lawmakers remain committed to making our communities safer. New Jersey lawmakers will be voting soon on several GVP bills and we need to make sure they do the right thing and vote yes!
This GVP bill package will strengthen New Jersey's purchase permitting system, enhance recordkeeping requirements for firearms and ammunition, deter individuals from buying guns for people who can't legally buy them themselves, and expand the types of criminal convictions that disqualify someone from purchasing or possessing a firearm.
