Dumbo the Performing Baby Elephant Dies After His Legs Snap. Shut Down Phuket Zoo!
The Phuket Zoo Forced Dumbo the Baby Elephant to Do Tricks for Tourists, and Then Didn't Even Notice When He Broke Both His Back Legs. Shut Down this Negligent Zoo Now!
Send the message that cruel wildlife attractions, like elephant shows, will not be tolerated, Moving Animals are calling for Phuket Zoo to be closed down immediately.
In April 2019, the world met Dumbo, a skeletal baby elephant forced by the Phuket Zoo to "rave" to loud music, play instruments, and do other tricks for tourists three times a day every day. Over 200,000 people from around the world signed a Care2 petition demanding that the zoo free Dumbo to a sanctuary so that he could live out the rest of his life in peace.
But Dumbo never had the chance to find peace or even to know a single day lived without fear and pain. Less than a month after the global call for his freedom was sounded, he died behind bars at the Phuket Zoo.
The only reason that the zoo finally sought veterinary treatment for Dumbo was because public pressure forced them to do so. It was then revealed that Dumbo had been suffering from a digestive tract infection for months, which gave him constant diarrhea and made him incredibly weak.
Dumbo was so weak that when he got stuck in a mud puddle at the zoo, he broke both of his back legs trying to free himself. The Phuket Zoo didn't even notice that Dumbo's legs were broken for three days. By the time they took him to get treated, it was too late; Dumbo died in agony a week later.
The Phuket Zoo's torturous animal performances and extreme neglect killed Dumbo. But they continue to make many animals perform, including monkeys, crocodiles, and other elephants. They're also still legally allowed to purchase another baby elephant for their shows.
Sign this petition to demand that Thai authorities shut down the Phuket Zoo. It may be too late to save Dumbo, but it is not too late to stop the zoo from hurting countless other animals. Sign Now and again, send the message that cruel wildlife attractions, like elephant shows, will not be tolerated, Moving Animals are calling for Phuket Zoo to be closed down immediately.
Elephant Trophy Hunting Ban Lifted in Botswana
The government of Botswana recently lifted the trophy hunting ban on elephants. Right now, we must make our voices heard loud and clear that this is unacceptable and dishonorable.
Please send a message to President Masisi and the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, and Tourism. Here is an example of what you can say; This decision undermines years of wildlife resurgence that has occurred in Botswana and the countless people around the world that would rather see an elephant alive in the wild, outnumber the very few trophy hunters that take away innocent life.
Please share this petition with others on all of your social media platforms.
Thank you for your continued support and keep fighting the good fight!!!
“We must protect the unprotected, care for the uncared for, and speak for the voiceless. We must give all animals a chance to live a life.”
That is why the news coming out of Botswana is so heartbreaking.
Not only is the government lifting the elephant hunting ban as experts warn of declining populations, they will now allow elephant meat to be used in pet food and other products.
Ellen Degeneres, a powerful celebrity animal advocate, sent out this tweet as the news broke:
Ellen is right. Millions are using Change to take action to protect elephants around the world and they need all the support they can get.
We sent a strong message when you joined more than 300,000 people telling Botswana to restore their anti-poaching units – but so much more needs to be done to save the African elephant. That is why today I’m asking you to take an additional step by becoming an Animal Protection Member.
